Northland CAPS Program Holds Networking Event
CAPS students recently met to learn networking with each other and future employers.
Area high school students in Northland Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) had the opportunity to attend their first monthly All-Strands meeting centered around the importance of networking Sept. 24.
Senior Associates students that have returned to Northland CAPS for a 2nd year planned and facilitated the meeting for all Northland CAPS Associates. Business and Industry Professionals from all six areas of focus were secured by the Senior Associates who then helped first-year associates perfect their networking skills by practicing their elevator speeches, handshakes and conversations.
During the event, Northland CAPS associates also had the opportunity to visit with a variety of colleges and universities as they begin planning their next steps beyond high school.
Jerry Hickey from Express Employment Professionals was the keynote speaker. Mr. Hickey presented students with information about how to work with people from different generations. He offered hints on how to work with people that are not from your generation and how they may see things differently. The students are beginning to plan for spring internships so the information was very timely.
Northland CAPS is an educational, career exploration program that focuses on Professionalism, has a project-based curriculum, along with internships that allow students from eight different school districts in the Northland to experience careers in Digital Media and Design, Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing, Global Business and Entrepreneurship, Global Logistics, Medicine and Healthcare, and Technology Solutions.
